Dental Root Elevator Fig. 4 SA Stainless Steel Tool
When a fractured or firmly seated root resists a straightforward extraction, dental practitioners need instrumentation built for precision. The Schmeckebier-Apexo root elevator answers that need with a slim, angled blade that delivers controlled luxation and root elevation, so surrounding bone experiences minimal trauma.
An Anatomic Handle That Reduces Fatigue
Its anatomically contoured handle also distributes pressure evenly across the palm, which reduces hand fatigue during longer procedures. Because Fig. 4 SA is a standard reference size, practitioners use it consistently across general dentistry and oral surgery, often alongside the Fig. 5 SA elevator for a fuller range of root sizes.

Clinical Applications
- Elevation and luxation of roots prior to forceps extraction
- Removal of retained or fractured root fragments
- Loosening of periodontal ligament attachment in surgical extractions
- Root-tip retrieval in oral and maxillofacial procedures
- Preparatory luxation before third molar (wisdom tooth) extraction
Key Benefits
- The anatomic handle design reduces grip fatigue, especially during extended procedures
- Because it’s built from AISI 420 stainless steel, it resists corrosion across repeated autoclave cycles
- The angled Fig. 4 SA blade profile allows controlled, atraumatic root elevation
- Since it’s reusable, it supports long-term instrument cost efficiency versus disposable elevators
- It autoclaves reliably at standard 134°C cycles, so routine sterile reprocessing stays straightforward
Ideal For
General dental practices, oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics, dental teaching hospitals, and outpatient extraction suites.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, it autoclaves reliably using standard steam sterilization cycles at 134°C.
It’s reusable, so practitioners can sterilize and use it repeatedly rather than disposing of it after a single patient.
It uses AISI 420 stainless steel.
Fig. 4 SA and Fig. 5 SA share the same anatomic handle and steel grade, but they differ slightly in blade length and curvature to suit different root positions.
